Blizzard's official October 7 class deep dive focuses on keeping the recognizable Mage and Shaman playstyles while making their toolkits more deliberate and easier to manage. These are developer-described design goals; exact tuning can still change during beta.
Mage: clearer spell-school identity
The update emphasizes choosing the right spell for the situation: Frost control, Fire critical-strike setups, and Arcane tools that amplify the rest of the kit. Revised talents are intended to give each school a stronger identity while leaving room for mixed-school builds.
Shaman: less repetitive setup
Blizzard highlighted longer-lasting weapon imbues and totems, totem tracking, Call spells, Totemic Recall, and Totemic Projection. The aim is to reduce repeated setup without removing the importance of placement, timing, and elemental utility.
What players should do during beta
- Test each spell school or totem tool in real combat, not just on target dummies.
- Record talent choices, mana/resource pressure, and how often utility tools need refreshing.
- Do not assume current beta damage or healing numbers are final launch values.
